The compact pickup truck market in the United States is indeed a crowded one. Volkswagen just might entering it in the near future after recently unveiling the Volkswagen Tarok concept truck at the New York International Auto Show.

Unique Features for a Unique Concept

The Tarok shown at the unveiling would certainly bring some unique features for Auburn, MA, and Worcester drivers to consider if it came to fruition in the United States. The most notable to pickup truck enthusiasts is the short bed, measuring just 47.5 inches. No truck sold in the U.S. has a bed that short. However, the Tarok did have a unique pass-through cabin that added more than two feet of bed space.

Also unique is the smaller engine, which means more fuel efficiency but less power. The Tarok featured a turbocharged 1.4-liter, 147-horsepower engine, a far cry from other would-be truck counterparts. It did showcase 4MOTION all-wheel drive, and different drive settings to accommodate changing conditions.

Next-Generation Interior Design

The Volkswagen Tarok leaves analog in the past with the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit, which lets drivers configure the instrument cluster to their preferences. It also showcased a 9.2-inch infotainment system, with an emphasis on Bluetooth and app connectivity.

It remains to be seen whether Volkswagen will ultimately bring the Tarok concept to the U.S. market. The truck is expected to soon be for sale in Brazil, but its future in the U.S. is still unknown.

If the Volkswagen Tarok does come to the streets of Westborough and Shwresbury, MA, you can bet Patrick Motors Volkswagen will have the same great selection area drivers have come to expect. See us soon to learn more about Volkswagen cars of the present!
