Announced at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show, the Atlas is the MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice Award winner for the Large Utility Vehicle segment. The show’s host, John Davis, had this to say about the Atlas winning the award for the second year running.

“Despite a near flood of new three-row utility competition, no one matches the Volkswagen Atlas when it comes to family-pleasing roominess, practical luxury, user friendly technologies, advanced safety, and driving manners,” he said.

Meanwhile, Volkswagen of America CEO Scott Keogh was thrilled to see the Atlas have such continued success. “It was designed and built specifically for American families, and buyers and critics alike are letting us know that we’re hitting the mark with this seven-seater SUV.”

In the process of deciding which models will receive the award, the MotorWeek staff review more than 150 cars, trucks, and SUVs on a number of criteria that are important to consumers. Practicality, fuel economy, driving characteristics, technology, and value for money are all considered, and Atlas was considered a leader on all fronts for the large SUV class.

For 2019, the Atlas offers two engines and seven trim levels. Combined, these options give potential Atlas buyers the power to decide what is right for their family, their budget, and their needs. Seven seats give drivers all the space they’ll need for their growing family, and with the seats folded, 96.8 cubic-feet of cargo space leaves room for just about anything you’ll need to carry. Optional 4MOTION® all-wheel drive gives this SUV added capability so you can safely take your family wherever they need to go, even in less-than-ideal conditions.

On the technology front the Atlas holds up as well, offering navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit, that allows for custom dash layouts for up to four drivers, rather than the traditional analog display.
